Are your monitors not coming on or are they not displaying what you expect them to? This guide walks employees through the basic troubleshooting steps they can complete to try to resolve the issue themselves.
Pre-requisites:
- You must have external monitors. Laptop display issues that cannot be addressed by this article and would need to have a ticket opened with ITSupport@empowerme.com for the IT team to address it.
Instructions:
- Confirm that your monitor is plugged into power.
- Check the power cable, is it plugged into a wall port or surge protector?
- Check the other side of the power cable, is it fully plugged into the back of the monitor? If it's even loose it wont get power.
- Make sure that the surge protector is switched on. If it is, try plugging the monitor directly into the wall to see if the surge protector is broken.
- Make sure the monitor is powered on.
- Press the power button on your monitor to turn it on.
- If it does not turn on and you have completed step 1, open a ticket with IT for a monitor replacement
- Make sure the monitor display cable is plugged in fully on both sides.
- Is the monitor display cable plugged in fully to the back of the monitor?
- Is the monitor display cable plugged in fully to the laptop or docking station?
- Make sure the monitor is set to duplicate or extend in your windows settings.
- Open your System Settings
- Select System
- Select Display
- Underneath your available displays, select the dropdown and make sure it says some combination of duplicate or extend these displays:
- Reboot your monitor
- Unplug it from power, wait 15 seconds, plug it back in
- Reboot your docking station
- Unplug it from power, wait 15 seconds, plug it back in
